HOW OUR SCHOOL FUNCTIONS

The School is affiliated to CBSE and has classes from Kindergarten to Class XII.

Intellectual development of each student includes all aspects of mental development keeping in mind her/his capabilities, talents, home situation, and opportunities for studies.
Besides the class-room work, the pupils are encouraged to do library research.

Kindergarten

Students in kindergarten are encouraged to learn in a tension-free environment. Our tiny scholars are taught through games and songs and we make sure learning is as much fun as it is instructive. The students have an activity-room where they learn through play-way methods and activities. However, we also make sure that our students’ progress is evaluated from time to time.

Classes XI and XII

The school will follow syllabi and courses as per scheme of studies prescribed by the Board for senior school certificate examination and changes made there in from time to time.

Class XI will have 4 examinations in a year: pre-midterm, midterm, post midterm and final. The aggregate of all the examinations will determine the criteria for promotion to class XII.

Class XII will have 5 examinations in a year: pre-midterm, midterm, post midterm, I Model, II Model and III Model.

Remedial Classes

The school also runs remedial classes in the evenings where special attention is given to weak students.

Special Focus on Languages

We aim to develop the language skills of our students in English, Malayalam and Hindi alike. As English is a language which has to be used in our daily life and not just studied academically, we focus on developing the English skills of the students and have a fully equipped Language Lab to achieve this aim. The members of the inspection board of CBSE who visit the school are always impressed by the fluency of our students’ English. At the same time, unlike many other schools where the students are introduced to Malayalam and Hindi quite late in schooling, we teach our students Malayalam and Hindi right from the Kinder garten level standard.  As a result, our students develop their linguistic skills faster and they become proficient in all three languages instead of only being able to communicate in one language as they grow up.

Besides Indian languages, we also teach our students German in the higher classes (VI – VIII).

Co-Curricular Activities

1. Music

Both western and Indian vocal & Instrumental music lessons are taught in the school. Students who have a flair for playing the keyboard practice and  horne their skills.

6. Physical Education

Hagia Sophia firmly believes that a healthy mind can reside only in a healthy body. Therefore, physical education periods provide the young aspirants to remain active and healthy and cultivate a positive physical culture which in turn helps them to have a positive approach towards life. Students are exposed to a variety of sports and games such as cricket, football, table tennis, badminton, chess and so on in the school. Interested students who need further training are given coaching lessons by the PT instructor in the evenings and during vacations. The Annual Sports Meet is held every year and students compete enthusiastically in house wise competitions.

The school also hosts an all Kerala CBSE inter school Football Tournament for the Hagia Sophia Soccer Cup in the month of January every year.
