SCHOOL ANNUAL REPORT 2025-26
Hagia Sophia Public School, the one and only of its kind, is situated in the middle of the lush greenery of Mattakuzhy. The school was established in the year 2005 under the auspicious chairmanship of HG Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan.
Hagia Sophia means Holy wisdom. As her name suggests, Hagia Sophia Public School is the abode of Holy wisdom where the students are trained to embrace wisdom rather than mere knowledge and information. The school is committed to provide holistic education which focuses on the overall development of the child - including physical, mental, intellectual, emotional and social development. Every anecdote given to the students thus targets the holistic development. The aim of education in Hagia Sophia is to mould ‘Future Ready Citizens’.

Board Examination Result
In class X - Secondary School Examination and class XII - Senior School Certificate Examination 2025, Hagia Sophia bagged 100% result.

Capacity Building Programmes for Teachers
CBSE has conducted three Capacity Building Programmes in Hagia Sophia in the month of May exclusively for our teachers. The topics were:
- National Curriculum Framework for School Education
- Learning Outcome and Pedagogies
- Disaster Management
The purposes of CBSE's Capacity Building Programmes (CBPs) are to continuously develop teachers' skills to improve student learning outcomes, align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and enhance classroom instruction. These programmes aim to improve subject mastery, simplify complex concepts, and provide teachers with innovative teaching tools, practical strategies, and structured session plans.
Theme of the Academic Year - Sancta Wisdom
This year, the school has selected the theme ‘Sancta Wisdom’ as the theme of the academic year. Sancta Wisdom means Holy Wisdom which in turn means Hagia Sophia. Every activity conducted in the school is directly or indirectly connected with the theme Sancta Wisdom. The Annual Day Programmes which are going to be staged today are also focused on the theme Sancta wisdom.
School Reopening
After the prolonged 2 months’ vacation, the school reopened on 2nd June 2025. The Reopening ceremony was conducted on the same day. School Chairman HG Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan graced the occasion. His Grace lighted the lamp to mark the formal opening of the academic year, followed by the unveiling of the theme Sancta Wisdom. The occasion also marked the official inauguration of the advanced interactive panels inside the classrooms.
Kindergarten reopening was on 9th June. The new faces were warmly welcomed by the students of Foundational stage. Ms. Preetha Biju, Counselling Psychologist was the Chief Guest of the day who lighted the lamp and set the rhythm for the new academic year.
Environment Day Celebration
Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June. Students planted saplings in the school ground to mark the importance of the day. Mr. Manoj Joseph, Agricultural Officer, Puthencruz agricultural office inaugurated the function. He spoke about the importance of planting and maintaining trees to preserve the serenity of nature. He also urged students to understand the importance of farming which sustains human life on this planet.
School Parliament Election
School Parliament Election was conducted on 19th June for 8 different posts. All the processes and procedures of the Indian democratic election were followed to conduct the school election, such as election notification, filing of nomination, scrutiny, withdrawal, election campaign, polling, counting of votes and declaration of results. The following students were elected to various posts.

Clubs and Houses
All students of Hagia Sophia are the members of any one club of their choice. School clubs are necessary for providing students with a holistic education by fostering essential skills like teamwork, leadership, and creativity in a collaborative environment. We have ten clubs in Hagia.

We also have house system in our school. House system fosters a sense of community, encourage teamwork, and promote healthy competition among students. We have four houses in Hagia.

Clubs and houses give wonderful opportunities for our children to participate in different programmes and competitions conducted in and out the campus.
Parental Awareness Programmes
Various awareness programmes for the parents were conducted in the school for educating parents on various issues that are confronting our children. On 9th June, parents of Kintergarten were given an awareness session on the topic - ‘Challenges of parenting’ by Ms. Preetha Biju, Counselling Psychologist. Parents of classes I - V had their awareness session on 14th July on the topic - ‘Challenges of Modern Parenting’. On 15th July, parents of classes V, VI and VII were given awareness on the topic ‘How to get rid of mobile phone addiction’. On 16th July, parents of classes VIII, IX & XI were given awareness on the same topic. All these sessions were taken by Ms. Neslie S, Woman Civil Excise Officer, Mamala. There was a special awareness programme conducted on 12th August for the parents of students who experience various learning disabilities. Parents of classes X & XII were given awareness on the changing pattern of board examination and the new system of two board examinations in a year.
International Yoga Day
International Yoga Day is an annual celebration held on June 21. This day is celebrated to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga, a practice that promotes physical and mental health, and inner peace. We celebrated Yoga Day on 20th June. Our students performed different asanas to show the benefits of practising yoga.
Anti Drug Day
Anti-Drug Day was observed on 26th June. Students and staff took the anti-drug pledge. Various awareness programmes were conducted by the students under the initiative of Anti-Drug Club. MANAS posters with the helpline number 1933 have been displayed on all the floors of the school building to create awareness among the children. Students can use the number to call and report about drug abuse and trafficking.
Investiture Ceremony and Award Meet
Investiture Ceremony and Award Meet were conducted on 1st July. The event was graced by Captain Shinodh Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy as the chief guest. School Chairman HG. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan delivered the benedictory address. The highlight of the ceremony was the formal induction of the student council. The chief guest bestowed badges and sashes to the elected members. After the investiture ceremony, the award meet was conducted. This segment celebrated the academic achievements, with awards presented to the school topper, class X topper, full A1 holders and centum holders.
PTA Executive Committee and PTA Council
PTA Council consists of the representatives of classes from Pre KG to Plus two. We have 30 PTA Council Members representing the school. The PTA Executive Committee was formed out of the PTA Council. For the academic year 2025-26, the following personals were elected to the executive:

Open Houses and Parent - Teacher Meetings
Periodically, Open Houses and Parent - Teacher Meetings are conducted in the school, especially after major examinations. Report Cards and Mark Statements are given to the parents during the Open Houses. Open houses are the platforms where students, parents and teachers interact openly and find out learning gaps and solutions.
Introduction of Artificial Intelligence
This year onwards Artificial Intelligence will be taught as the 6th Subject in the school. AI has been started in classes IX and XI this year. Next year, they will give board examination in AI too. In addition, class VI onwards AI will be introduced from the next academic year.
Hagian Book Fair
Hagia Sophia, in association with United Books, conducted a Book fair in the school on 1st, 2nd and 4th July to promote reading habit among the children. Students visited the fair and purchased books of their choice. The fair gave wonderful opportunity for the students and parents to explore the world of books.
Rainbow - The School Cultural Fest
Rainbow - The school cultural fest was conducted in the month of July. Non-stage events were conducted from 7th July to 23rd July. Stage events were conducted on 31st July. Famous cine artist Ms. Gouri Nandha inaugurated the cultural fest. Students showcased their talents on different stages and the winners were awarded with medals, trophies and certificates.
Sahodaya Kalotsav
Our students participated in the Sahodaya Kalotsav, which is an inter school arts competition where more than 50 schools of Kochi Sahodaya participate every year. Kumari Namitha Sudheer bagged 3rd position with A grade in Versification Malayalam in category 4 and Kumari. Ardra Biju secured 3rd position with A grade in Digital Painting in category 4. In Category 2, Kumari Gouri Sreekumar secured 4th position with A grade in both Mono Act and Folk dance. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the participants.
Planetarium and VR Show
Hagia Sophia, in association with Mystery Domes conducted Planetarium and VR show for the students on 7th and 8th August. Both the shows provided a wonderful experience for the students by virtually exploring the space, the earth and the ocean.
English Fest
English Fest is a new initiative by Hagia Sophia. The fest is designed to promote the use of English language in the campus. The fest is conducted house wise. Students are allowed to present programmes only in English and the programmes should be live performance as well. All four houses presented variety entertainment programmes to showcase their vivid talents. The fest provided wonderful opportunity for our students to explore their hidden talents.
Inter - House Competitions
Inter house competitions were conducted in the month of August. Cricket, Football and Kho kho competitions were conducted for the houses. The competitions gave opportunity for our young players to explore their skills and dynamism. Inter house competitions facilitate collaborative learning and they also teach students to embrace success and failure with equanimity and learn from both.
Independance Day Celebration
Hagia Sophia proudly celebrated the 79th Independence Day on 14th August. Students performed various programmes to commemorate the sacrifices made by the brave freedom fighters. The patriotic songs and the dance performance ignited the spirit of nationalism and fraternity in the minds of the students.
Onam Celebration
We celebrated Onam on August 29th with vibrant programs. Mr. Girish N, Station House Officer, Puthencruz Police Station, inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the lamp. The event was graced by the presence of the school Chairman HG Dr. Mar Thomas Athanasius Metropolitan. Teachers and students made beautiful floor carpet in the parlour. After the formal function, various games were conducted for the students, teachers and non-teaching staff. The inter house Tug of war elevated the ambience of the celebration.
Hagian Expo
Hagian Expo - the school exhibition was conducted on 27th September on the theme, ‘The World Around us through your Eyes’. The Expo was inaugurated by Dr. KP Jose, Vice Principal, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics of St. Peter’s College Kolanchery. Students presented various exhibits showcasing the theme. A Special stall was arranged by the KG section with eye catching exhibits. The expo became an outstanding example of multi-disciplinary approach in education.
Zenith 2K25
Hagia Sophia hosted its annual sports meet, ‘Zenith 2K25’ from October 29th to November 1st. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Shiju P S, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thrikkakara. School chairman HG Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Metropolitan presided over the function. A highlight of the event was the impressive performances by the students, which included displays of karate, yoga, and aerobics. Parents ‘events were also conducted along with students’ events. The closing ceremony was graced by the chief guest Mr. Muhammed Iqbal, state volleyball player of the Kerala Police.
Open Book Exhibition
In the modern world, our children are more attracted to the screen than the books. In order to redirect them towards reading culture, an Open Book Exhibition was conducted in the school. Students were allowed to choose the books which they like and possess them without any payment. The exhibition was a grand success with all books finding new homes!
Children’s Day Celebration
This year too, Children’s Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm and joy. The morning assembly was conducted by the teachers. Students Assembly Commanders received the salute in the morning assembly. After the assembly, variety entertainment programmes were conducted by teachers and non-teaching staff. Children’s Day Celebration provided a stage for the teachers and non teaching staff to showcase their vivid talents.
School Study Tours
The school study tours were conducted in the month of November. Classes X & XII had two days’ study tour to Mysore and Coorg. Classes IX & XI had a one-day trip to Ramakkalmedu. Classes VI, VII and VIII visited Munnar. Classes III, IV and V had paid a visit to Thattekkad bird sanctuary and Bhoothathankett dam. KG students and classes I and II visited Chitilappilli Square. The study tours have facilitated hands-on learning and experiential understanding for our children.
Hagian Cup 2K25
Hagian cup, the prestigious Inter School U17 Football tournament hosted by Hagia Sophia was conducted on 27th November. The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. S Manoj, the famous Ranji Trophy Player. Chimaya Vidyalaya emerged as the winner of the tournament and Hagia Sophia bagged the Runner Up position. Master. Ashin Vinayan of Hagia Sophia became the best player of the tournament. Congratulations to the Hagian team! The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Tony J. Mattam, Inspector of Police, Chottanikkara Police Station, who also presented trophies and medals to the winners.
Hagian Achievements
Our Yoga students participated in the District Yogasana Competition and bagged many prices. Kumari. Hazel Abin, Kumari. Adelia Vandanath and Master. Jacob Shagy won first position in the District Yogasana Competition. Master. Thomas P Seby and Master. Jewel Pradeep secured second position. Master. Rithwik John Rajeev and Master. Abel John Nino secured third positions. The first, second and third prize winners contested at the national level competition and bagged certificates and medals.
Master. Harigovind R participated in the Abacus competition and was qualified for the state level competition.
Lions Club of Cochin Hi-tech Society conducted a painting competition on the topic: ‘Together as one’. Many of our students participated in the competition. Kumari. Amy V Njaliyath won the first prize. Master. John T Thomas bagged the second prize. Kumari. Rapunzel Lilia Tomz secured third prize. The winners received attractive cash prizes.
Our LKG student Master. Johaan Libin bagged first prize in the drawing competition conducted by YMCA Mattakuzhy.
To Conclude
Hagia Sophia is physically and resourcefully equipped to help our children to acquire the 21st century skills. We have well qualified teachers, state of the art laboratories, classrooms with interactive panels and smart TVs, expansive playground, extra-curricular activities, regular periods for art education and well stocked library. The school is moving ahead with time.
